To protect inventions of a technical nature
What is a patent?
A patent, also known as a patent, allows you to protect a technical invention. Its formulation is very precise: one word too many or too few can make the difference between a strong and a weak patent. Fortunately, your patent is in expert hands with the patent attorneys at Vriesendorp & Gaade.
Which patent attorney
suits you best?
A patent allows you to prevent third parties from using, marketing, or otherwise trading your invention. This allows you to gain a strong market position, sell licenses, or negotiate with manufacturers. Our various patent attorneys specialize in all technical fields, enabling them to translate any technical invention into a strong patent application.
Application process from A to Z
We handle the entire patent application process for you: from the initial consultation to filing and granting the patent. We do this not only in the Netherlands but also internationally through our global network of agents.
The patent defines the scope of protection for your technical invention or idea. However, the invention doesn't have to be fully developed when you contact us. On the contrary, it's crucial that you consult us early in the development process regarding the patentability of your invention. We can usually make a good assessment of this during our initial consultation. In some cases, we'll conduct a supplementary literature review in consultation with you to gain a better understanding of the background and key features of your invention. If similar patent rights already exist that could hinder your progress, you may still be able to adjust your development.
Procedure for filing a patent application
We prepare a patent application with an initial draft. The correct wording is crucial. The patent application contains:
- a technical description of your invention;
- a detailed description of the background of the invention;
- the problem for which the invention provides a solution;
- and for which you are requesting protection.
In consultation with you, we will revise the initial design and file the patent application. Our draftsmen will ensure that your drawings or sketches meet all formal requirements. Your patent application will be assessed by the Patent Office based on three requirements: the invention must be novel, inventive, and industrially applicable. After filing, we will monitor the progress of your patent application and inform you of important deadlines and decision points.
confidentiality
After your patent application has been filed, you can disclose your invention. It's important to keep your invention strictly confidential until the filing date. However tempting it may be, avoid publicity and don't offer your invention to potential interested parties. We will treat the information you share with us confidentially.
